POJOK PENDIDIKAN

Let’s a little bit talk about paradigm of education! Start from our country, Indonesia. As a student from Indonesia, of course the main point of education is about score, value, or number. All students compete to reach their best score in every lesson. All students feel pressed or may be stressed because of national examination. Even more sad if students do not get good score, it will considered a fool and has no future. Fortunately, next year Indonesia will start a new program from our minister of education, Mr. Nadiem Makarim. The National Examination will be replaced by a Minimum Competency Assessment similar to the Program for International Student Assessment (PISA). "That was deleted. Replaced with the Minimum Competency Assessment, which is almost similar to PISA, namely literacy, numeracy, plus there is a Character Survey," said Mr. Nadiem.
In terms of ranking PISA Singapuras always ranks first with the acquisition of an average score of 1,655 students. However, Singapore is willing to change its approach in education to be more holistic assessment, not just prioritizing academic values. Then how is the education process in Singapore?

Singapore is the 1st richest country in Southeast Asia. Education is a major factor in developing a country. Let's look together at the education process in Singapore. Singapore has been known for its educational paradigm which places great emphasis on academics pursuing the perfect final grade. Reporting from straitstimes.com, Singapore Education Minister Ong Ye Kung in September (09/28/2018) said, "Learning is not competing" and plans to make a series of changes aimed at reducing the value competition between students and encouraging students to concentrate on developing learning and themselves. New approaches to Singaporean education starting in 2019, tests for students in primary school (6 years) and high school (4 years) will be removed. For this purpose, primary and secondary school report books (report cards) will no longer show whether a student has completely completed the subject matter by eliminating class averages, total marks, minimum and maximum grades. Student report cards no longer highlight failures or record failures or successes at the end of the school year. To be sure, ranking in class or school will be eliminated. The Singapore Ministry of Education said that teachers will continue to gather information on student learning progress through discussions, homework and quizzes. Schools will use a "qualitative description" approach instead of grades. Whereas for elementary and middle school students, grades for each subject will be rounded up and presented as integers, without decimal numbers so as not to focus too much on academic grades.
Singapore's new approach to education is in sharp contrast to neighboring countries that are pursuing educational rankings of the OECD Program for International Student Assessment or PISA. The changes in Singapore's education paradigm from academic orientation to holistic oriented education will bring serious changes to Singapore's future. This policy no longer pursues academic excellence but is now more focused on developing social interaction skills and competence in decision making. Classroom learning practices will be adapted to industry needs so that graduates are ready to work in a growing range of service sectors.
Right now, Many peoples are not aware of the importance of skills in the world of work, many peoples speculate that if they have a high degree they can get any job they want. While not all companies or jobs that want to receive prospective workers with a degree but without good skills. Because skills determine the performance of prospective workers later.
How about Indonesia? is Indonesia ready one step ahead in overcoming the education paradigm like Singapore? I hope so.
